The Boys Main Characters, Powers, and all to Know Before Season 5

Season 5 of The Boys is in production, and will be released in 2026. Most probably, it is going to be the last one. The main characters of The Boys need no introduction but the mysteries, powers, abilities, and some untouched places need your attention before season 5. Let’s talk about The Boys!

Powers and Abilities of The Boys – Buther’s Crew

Billy Butcher

The big bad wolf of The Boys, and the captain of the squad is none other than Billi Butcher. Originally an English fellow with an entertaining and diabolical accent. I mean only watching him speak send out some up-to-no-good vibes. You get what I am saying.

Butcher’s wife in The Boys (played by Shantel VanSanten) serves as a catalist to his anger towards supes when she is forcefully taken by Homelander. And they have a child – the only natural born supe.

He is one of The Boys Main Characters. Butcher originally don’t have any superhuman powers, and abilities. But for a short while he injects himself with Temp V (V24) to gain a huge boost in his strength. Also, he can shoot lasers like Homelander. He is still a lot weaker than Homelander but give him a tough fight along with Soldier Boy. The temporary boost also hightens his senses, reflexes, and durability. In the last season of The Boys, we see his powers evolving, when he killes Voctoria Neuman with his tenticals (coming out of his chest). He may be on the path to becoming a more powerful supe with unknown powers. Can’t wait for season 5!

The true abilities of Butcher lies in his ruthlessness, tactics, manipulation, military training, and firearms uses. Naturally, his chosen team is also one of his strengths.

On the other hand his comics counterpart is on a whole different level. He has a permanent superhuman strength, laser eyes, and a sadistic behavior thanks to regular use of Compound V. He tears apart supes with much more cruelty, and hate.

Hughie Campbell

Another one of The Boys Main Characters is Wee Hughie. A simple electronic store assistant loses his girlfriend to A-Train’s overdoses ruthless speed run. Butcher sniffs him out, and asks him to join his misfits. Unlike Butcher he is a non-vilolent fellow.

Hughie or Wee Hughie although seemigly calm, has his outbursts sometimes. Originally, he also don’t have any super powers. But later following Butcher’s footsteps he decides to experiment with Temp V and gains teleportation. Still, he can’t teleport with his clothes and always arrives naked.

In comics, Buther injects him with Temp V, and he gains super human strength, and durability. His punches are enough to break bones, and kill normal supes. He becomes more dangerous when he is pushed to his limits.

Mother’s Milk (M.M.)

The Boys often fall apart when M.M is not around. He is sort of a moral compass for the group. He is highly trained, and skilled fighter, and has a alot of history with Butcher.

In TV show, we have yet to see if he will get any super powers – a highly unlikely scenario as The Boys is approaching its final season. On the other hand he is a permanently enhanced supe in the comics. His powers are super strength, endurance, and resilience, plus enhanced reflexes.

Frenchie

He is the junkie genius of the group. He excels in chemistry, explosives, tactics, fire arms, torture, and infiltrations. In the TV series we don’t see him getting any super powers.

On the other hand in comics, he gets his super powers using Compound V. His main powers are superhuman strength, and durability. Like Butcher he is extremly violent, and deadly while maintaining his genius level insights during a fight – making him even more dangerous.

Kimiko Miyashiro

Another ons of the boys and The Female among The Boys group is actually a natural supe (injected with Compound V as a child). She is not just any supe, she has regenration along with superhuman strength, durability, and reflexes. She can even heal from fatal wounds. She can easily fight with more than one supes at a time. Tearing apart supes is a normal day for her.

She rarely speaks, and is extremly loyal to the group. In comics, she has smilar abilities, but with an even more savage attitude.

Starlight (Annie January)

Originally, a member of the Vought’s ‘The Seven,’ she gets fed up with their corrupt nature, and due to certain circumstances become one of The Boys – mostly thanks to Hughie. Although, not an official/permanent member she is often seen in their folds, and helping them when she can.

Normally, her place lies with The Seven, but she is not exactly a Homelander’s toy material so, I am putting her among Boys. She is also the sweetheart of the Hughie.

Startlight’s powers are blinding light blasts that she can use after absorbing the electricity. In Tv she can even use it to fly to some extent. In the latest trailer of The Boys season 5 she can use her power to fly perfectly, and very fast.

In comics, she has almost the same powers, and abilities but have a more darker past. Her other powers are super strength, and durability.

Powers and Abilities of the Vought Supes – The Boys

Homelander

The Vought’s main ‘hero’ and the big bad villain of The Boys is Homelander. He has a lot of childhood ‘complexes.’ And a shear need for a mother like figure. His powers are beyond anyone in the comics or The Boys Tv show. In comics, only Black Noir (his own clone) is the only one in the Vought universe stronger than him.

In short, he is the superman of this universe. Heat vision, flight, super durability, super hearing, super speed, and everything is in his grasp. In comics, his powers are almost same as in the TV show.

Queen Maeve

The wonder woman of the Seven, Queen Maeve is one of the most durable fighters in the series. She has superhuman strength, reflexes, and can stand up to anyone except the likes of Homelander, Stromfront, and Soldier Boy. Maeve actress in The Boys is Dominique McElligott.

Recently, we saw her demise at the hands of Homelander. Originally, she wanted to be good but later accepted her fate and went on with the flow. Her original intentions got the best of her, and currently she is hiding with her girlfriend Elena after faking her death. In comics she rarely fights, and is often seen drunk. Still, her powers are almost the same as in the TV show.

Stormfront

In the TV series, Stormfront is the second most powerful supe. Yes, she has flight, superhuman strength, and all traits of Homelander. Instead of his heat vision, she has electricity projection/manipulation. Sadly, she met a very tragic end – though well deserved. She was Vought’s first successful supe, and was tied to Nazi Germany.

In comics, Stormfront is a male character. Almost same powers, and slighly less stronger than Homelander. His powers are lightning blasts, flight, and superhuman durability/strength.

Black Noir

One of the most fans’ favorite character, and a mute is none other than Black Noir. He is never seen speaking, may be is is really a mute. A skilled assassin, with all the traits of Queen Maeve with better reflexes, training, and solid built. Recently, Homelander got him with a superpowered fist. Still, he was his most ‘trusted’ pal.

In comics, it is later revealed that he was originally a Homelander’s clone whose purpose was to kill Homelander if he goes rouge or out of Vought’s control. And yes, he is even stronger than Homelander. Also, he has the same powers like Homelander’s flight, heat vision, invulnerability. At the end he comes out as the main villain framing Homelander for all atrocities.

A-Train

A compound V junkie but the fastest supe in the world. A-Train is a deeply conflicted supe who sometimes leans towards good. However, the fear of Homelander, and the loss of his status as one of the Seven often pushes him towards evil. So yh, he is one of the bad guys. He has Enhanced reflexes, stamina, and kinetic impact. The dude can mush the people while running. He turned Hughie’s girlfriend into minced meat when he ran into her overdosed with Compund V.

In comics he was a member of Teenage Kix first, and later got accepted into The Seven. He is more of a thug than tragic figure. And he has the same abilities like in the TV show.

The Deep

Initially he seemed like a big deal but gradually as the show progressed he became a lame character. At first I though he will have some awesome superhuman powers like water control, freeze etc. But his most abilities work on water and we have yet to see him in real action in ocean or sea.

He can swim really fast, and fight under water. And guess what, almost all the show is on land and we rarely see any water based action. Also, he can talk to fish like Aquaman. Unfortunately, Deep is weaker than most supes on land.

In comics Deep has same aquatic abilities but with bad makeup. Also, mostly he is a background character. Not in The Seven.

Translucent (TV-only)

Translucent doesn’t exist in comics but in TV he was among The Seven in the first season. And after he got taken by The Boys. He lost his touch, and some more. The Frenchie’s experiment turned out to be ‘perfect’ for The Boys, and they managed to kill a supe. In a really absured, and ‘creative’ way.

His powers are superhuman strength, super durability due to his indistructable diamond (carbon metamaterial) skin, and invisibility. He is a bomb proof ghost. But Frenchie’s was more creative. And Hughie pushed the button.

Sister Sage

One of the most dangerous supes that appeared recently in the season 4 of The Boys is Sister Sage. She is played by the actress Susan Heyward. She is a cerebral powerhouse who was injected with Compound V during childhood.

She never lets people forget that she is the smartest person in the world. And a bold one at that. The way she talks to Homelander shows her fearless personality. The power of mind on a whole another level.

Homelander gets impressed by her wits, and offers her a seat among The Seven. Currently, it is due to her planning that The Boys, and other foes of Homelander are constantly on the run. According to some fans on Reddit, she is one of the few who the Homelander see as his equal.

Jack from Jupiter (Comics-only)

Jack from Jupiter only exist in comics version of The Boys. He is not in the TV show. He is a sad parody of Martian Manhunter with alien like color. His powers are flight, durabilty, and limited shapeshifting. [the boys comic wiki]

Other Non-Seven Supes

Soldier Boy

Played by Jared Padalecki The Boys had to face yet another supe from the past. We saw a lot of Soldier Boy in the season 3 of The Boys. He was one of the main characters. He is like the winter soldier, who had been sleeping in a cold cell for a long time. One of the initial supes of Vought.

He has longevity, superhuman strength, stamina, and can shoot radiation blasts which can disrupt the powers of other supes. He along with V-enhanced Butcher gave a tough time to Homelander. If not for the last minute turn of Butcher, they would have killed him.

According to The Boys comic wiki, in comics he is much weaker, and a sad parody of Captain America. He wields a shield, and fight. Sort of like a side character – unlike his TV counterpart.

Victoria Neuman

Victoria Neuman played by the actress Nadia Khayat, is your mysterious head popper in The Boys. She has an deadly ability to pop the head of anyone within her reach. Up until, season 4 she was pretty deadly. her powers are mental, and using blood powers she can blast anyone’s head from inside.

She got some supes as well. But give it seemed she was unable to kill more durable supes like Homelander, Soldierboy, Stormfront, etc.

In the later parts of the season 4, she was ripped apart by Butcher’s tentacles. Another, one of the Butcher’s mysterious powers that we can look forward to in season 5.

Lamplighter

He is a sicko in his prime and has pyrokinesis. He can control, and boost the flames but cannot create them so, he depnds on a lighter or a lamp. He had a short screen time in the TV, The Boys.

My Thoughts on The Boys Main Characters

The Boys Main Characters in this blog posts are some of the finest in both comics, and the TV shows. What I find exciting is that in comics, The Boys have more super powers while in TV not so much. And despite that huge difference in abilities they have become a nightmare for Homelander, and Vought.

And let me be very frank, there are no heroes in this series. May be, just may be, that’s the reason why fans love it. Wee Hughie seems like a good choice, along with Starlight but the Boys gang is far from your typical heroes. It is a norm for usual heroes that they don’t kill. But this bunch lives for it.

Personally, I like this kind of struggle when a normal man with no superhuman abilities decides to challange an ability user or supe. Just like Batman – one of my absoulte favourites.

Another, paramount difference in why The Boys is so popular. For the first time, in a long time the supes in their tights were shown as bad guys. There is no hero who save the dame while swooping in at the last second. It is the fight against the corrupt supes. And the one fighting them, don’t even have abilities, and powers. It makes the plot so exciting, so much that even 10 seasons of The Boys won’t be enough. Thoughts?
