The anime To Be Hero X started airing in 2025, and it deserves more attention. Its worldbuilding, unique power system, and the aim to be the most powerful put this anime on a whole another level. This blog post highlights reasons why To Be Hero X might be the most underrated anime of this year. Let’s get started!

ToggleThe Plot of “To Be Hero X”
Don’t worry, I will try to avoid spoilers. Simply put, the anime takes place in a world where To Be Hero is the ultimate goal of many people. The first season of To Be Hero X shows the story of the top 10 hero contestants who aim to be the X. X is the title for the one who will sit above all heroes.

In the start, I said unique power system. Yes, the power levels are defined by the trust levels of common folks. In short, the more you are trusted, the more your superhuman abilities evolve. For me, it is a killer power system. Maybe some of you might think it’s too imaginary, but that is the beauty of fantasy entertainment — imagination is often infinite!
How the To Be Hero Series Built Its Cult Following
At first, To Be Hero (2016) started as a clever joke — to mock the superhero genre. A toilet designer turned superhero — way too weird of a story. But it got hits and became famous. Then came To Be Heroine (2018), which also gained attention. The studios thought, “Why not take it further?” and in 2025, it went live-stream — releasing the first season of To Be Hero X (24 episodes). Now To Be Hero has a huge following around the globe, and its second season will rock the anime world.

What took the audience/fans by surprise was the astonishing power system of belief = power. This hit the right spots, and fans cannot wait for the second season. Nice, Queen, Dragon Boy, E-Soul — they’re not just characters; they’re metaphors for modern celebrity archetypes. Some of you might like them, others not so much.
To Be Hero X Characters and Their Abilities
To Be Hero X characters are 10 heroes with different abilities, struggles, and stories. To understand them better, you need to watch the anime itself. But here is a perfectly summarized point of view. It is also a list of Strongest To Be Hero X Characters – Ranked from number 1 to number 10. [SPOILERS ALERT]

X (Rank #1)
The first ranker is the best of the best, titled as X. He stands at the pinnacle of the hero ranking, and his position is the dream of all heroes. X can manipulate reality and even alter the rules of the world. He can also control the perception of the people as to how they see and observe the world.
So, how is X so strong? His strength lies in his followers’ belief in him. And his major card is his mysterious nature — no one has ever seen his face. X’s goal is to maintain balance in his world while secretly questioning the very Hero system that put him on the top.
X has fought Queen and Nice on separate occasions. The new rankings were the result of those major battles. Of course, he came out on top. His main nemesis is the system, which puts heroes in the spotlight through public opinion of them.
Queen (Rank #2)
She is the second powerhouse in To Be Hero X. She controls her unique domain, and within her domain, she is almost unbeatable. Her word becomes the law in this domain. She is a prodigy who climbed the hero ranks by sheer will and determination. Her major nemesis is also the corrupt system she is forced to serve.
She once defeated Dragon Boy and also faced X in a brutal philosophical battle of ideals. She is only second to X. Philosophically, she has what it takes to be the protagonist of the anime.
Dragon Boy (Rank #3)
The third rank in To Be Hero X’s major characters is none other than Dragon Boy. He is a rebellious hero who hates how popularity, not strength, determines power. I am especially interested in his goal, which is to crush the system and replace “faith” with raw ability. In other words, his major enemy is also the system.
His powers and abilities increase with his rage. You can call it Rage Amplification. The more damage he takes, the stronger he becomes. He fought once with Queen and also with E-Soul. Much later, he teams up with Nice to fight against the corrupt agencies.
Ghostblade (Rank #4)
Ghostblade ranks 4th in the hero list of To Be Hero X’s major characters. His powers are Intangibility and Spirit Duplication — he can phase through matter and create energy copies of himself. Once he was an assassin, and now he regrets his past and tries to cover his guilt with humor, but clearly, the scars run deep.
His goal is to protect the innocent to atone for the lives he once took. He defeated Loli (Rank #6) in a sparring match and later vanished. Mostly, when there is a covert op, no one beats Ghostblade — sort of like Black Noir from The Boys.
The Johnnies (Rank #5)
Johnnies are not a single hero but a powerful ability that bands together a number of heroes who share the same consciousness called Synchronization. They are deeply loved by the public since they represent unity and the power of shared belief.
The Johnnies want to keep public morale alive through entertainment and hope. They participated in the Top 10 tournament and lost to E-Soul in Round 2. Personally, I think this particular ranking is kind of lame.
Loli (Rank #6)
The Loli, who also looks like a loli, is a hero who can rewind time in a limited area. A killer power, except it is limited to a short area and only works for the last 10 seconds. She is often alone and feels loneliness, and to mask it, she uses humor.
Her goal is to amplify her powers to undo a major traumatic incident that happened in her past. She lost to Ghostblade but used her power to save him mid-fight. In short, she has a childlike appearance, can rewind time, and has a kind heart.
Lucky Cyan (Rank #7)
Lucky Cyan ranks 7 among the heroes of To Be Hero X. She has a unique power called Probability Manipulation — can alter odds in her favor (but with random side effects). She is fueled by chaos, and everything — every step, every decision, every fight in her life — is like a gamble.
Luck is often on her side, proving it is a skill and not a coincidence. The only problem she faces is the side effects that her Probability Manipulation carries. Her most prominent battle was against Dragon Boy, where both of them almost destroyed a city.
Ahu (Rank #8)
Ahu, another hero from To Be Hero X, has immense powers and the best defense in the whole anime. Often called the gentle giant, he can manipulate earth and possesses unbreakable defense. Due to his gentle nature, he is often underestimated, but his ultimate tank abilities make others submit.
His goal is to protect the weak and remind the world that strength is not the only offense. He once saved Queen from an ambush and even destroyed a whole villain faction alone.
E-Soul (Rank #9)
E-Soul can manipulate electricity and has Electrokinesis. Even machinery is under his command, and his speed is off the charts due to his electric powers — kind of like Flash but with real Electrokinesis. He was once an imposter pretending to be the original E-Soul, but later, when his faith increased, he became the actual thing and worthy of the title.
He progressed and enhanced himself through commitment and effort, proving that legacy is built, not inherited. He took down The Johnnies in the tournament and nearly met death during his fight with Dragon Boy.
Nice (Rank #10)
Nice is your other protagonist in To Be Hero X. His final fight with X is a collision of ideals and beliefs. He possesses superhuman physique and Aura projection. The public believes that he is the perfect hero — as a hero should be.
When people stop believing in him, the very face of heroism starts to crumble. His ultimate goal is not to fight X but to actually discover the true meaning of being a hero without applause. His final battle against X is supposed to be very awesome and worth your time.

My Thoughts — A Hero Who’s Far from Perfect
To Be Hero X anime tells us stories of different characters. The protagonists Nice and X are two sides of the same coin — one who loses his trust, the other who sits at the top. In short, a hero doesn’t have to come from high class or wear shining armor. Anyone can be a hero.
The powers and abilities explained in this anime have a unique way of engaging the viewers. I would say it is definitely worth your try. Just don’t forget to let me know your thoughts on this anime.
