The Top Anime of all time That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Tensura

The best anime or top anime of all time is none other than Tensura, AKA That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. A bold statement, but too close to the truth. Forget classics like Steins;Gate, Berserk, or Monster for some time. Also, forget the new sensations like Demon Slayer, Attack on Titan, or Solo Leveling. Tensura gives us something that anime fans crave from the bottom of their hearts. Be it ‘feel-good’ sensations, world-building, slow-paced power-ups, wow moments, serious moments, funny moments, reincarnations, diabolical villains — in short, everything is packed up nicely in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.

And most of all, it is the best anime to binge-watch anytime you wish without getting bored — sort of like One Punch Man. In the following parts of this blog, I’ll prove to you why Tensura is the top anime of all time.

Firstly, if you don’t have time to read it fully, come back later when you do because I put this all together after hours of researching and days of writing. I would love it if you read it from top to bottom. Only this way will you understand why it is the best anime of all time. P.S. You will discover new and exciting events and developments about the anime itself and its characters. Beware, there might be spoilers if you still have to watch Slime Season 3.

Secondly, the blog is divided into two main parts and various sub-parts (I have made subheadings to make it easier to go through). The first part is about Tensura itself, its main characters, and what they bring to the story. The next part is how this anime takes the top spot among anime. It will describe various elements, structures, and more which make it stand out. Let’s get started!

The Story That Started It All

Satoru Mikami, from modern-day Japan, is stabbed in Tokyo while helping his friend escape from a robber. At the time of his death, he is a 37-year-old Japanese salaryman and reincarnates in a fantasy world as a blue slime. While discovering his new body and abilities, he comes across Veldora, the Storm Dragon — one of the only four True Dragons in this fantasy world. They become sworn brothers; Veldora names him Rimuru, and he names him Tempest. Therefore, their common name becomes Tempest — like a family name.

In short, he swallows Veldora in order to help him escape Unlimited Imprisonment. Later, he helps the weak Goblins and other races in the Jura Forest. After some battles and fantastic developments, he establishes the Jura Tempest Federation and becomes its supreme ruler.

You might already know the story if you’ve watched it. Yes, he becomes a Demon Lord and even names the new Demon Lords as Octagram. During his journey (up until Season 3), he faced many strong foes. He defeated some while taming others.

Satoru Mikami / Rimuru Tempest

A 37-year-old salaryman reincarnated as a slime after dying in modern Japan. Gains the “Predator” and “Great Sage” skills, becoming the foundation of the Jura Tempest Federation. As the protagonist of the series, his main power is his intellect, strategy, and a range of powerful skills at his disposal. Furthermore, his friends, subordinates, and powerful allies make him a force to reckon with.

Veldora Tempest (True Dragon)

The sealed Storm Dragon who befriends Rimuru inside the cave. In Season 1, Episode 1, Rimuru absorbs him and grants Veldora freedom later in Season 2 when he becomes a Demon Lord. He and Rimuru share the same family name given by Rimuru. Only Ranga (the direwolf) is another character with their family name, Tempest.

Great Sage (later evolves into Raphael)

Rimuru’s internal skill and advisor that calculates, analyzes, and strategizes everything for him. This skill is perhaps the best skill in all the world of Tensura. It later evolves into Raphael — and in the light novels, even more.

Gobta, Rigurd, Rigur, and the Goblin Tribe

The first creatures Rimuru befriends; they name him their leader after he helps them fight direwolves. They are his loyal subordinates and are willing to lay down their lives for him.

Ranga

The son of the defeated direwolf chief who pledges loyalty to Rimuru and later becomes his personal mount and protector. The only subordinate who shares Rimuru’s family name, he is always by his side.

Kaijin

A skilled Dwarven blacksmith who aids Rimuru in building his new nation and forging weapons for his followers. He, along with his dwarf brothers, is responsible for the development of Rimuru — the capital city — and their advancements in buildings, housing, weaponry, and more.

King Gazel Dwargo

The honorable King of Dwargon who recognizes Rimuru’s leadership and forms diplomatic relations with him. He is a strong ally of Rimuru, and the slime often looks to him for advice in ruling and political matters. He is also the first nation to recognize Tempest as a legitimate country.

Shizu Izawa (Shizue)

A Japanese adventurer summoned to this world by Demon Lord Leon Cromwell and possessed by the fire spirit Ifrit. She becomes Rimuru’s emotional anchor before dying peacefully. Rimuru wears her face when he transforms into a human body since he swallowed her due to her dying wish. He holds her in high regard since she was the one Rimuru was destined to be with (according to an elf who could catch glimpses of the future). In short, she contributed most towards Rimuru’s growth.

Ifrit

The fire spirit bound within Shizu, given to her by Leon Cromwell. After their battle, Rimuru absorbs Ifrit and gains his fire abilities.

Ogres (later Kijin: Benimaru, Shion, Shuna, Souei, Hakurou, and Kurobe)

Once victims of the Orc invasion, they join Rimuru and evolve into powerful Kijin after being named. In Rimuru’s army, they are some of the most powerful individuals. Especially Benimaru, who commands his army and can easily defeat most of the primary figures in the Slime world.

Orc Lord / Geld

A tragic figure manipulated by Gelmud and Clayman, who leads the Orc army before being purified by Rimuru. Later, after the defeat of Demon Lord Geld, Rimuru named his son Geld (as a gesture of respect for his father). He is now a powerful ally of Rimuru, overseeing most of the construction projects in Tempest.

Gelmud

A low-ranking Majin working under Demon Lord Clayman who orchestrates the Orc invasion. He got a satisfying ending when Demon Lord Geld takes care of him during the battle.

The manipulative “Marionette Master” Demon Lord who controls others for his schemes, acting as the central villain of Season 1’s second half and Season 2’s first half. He met his end at the hands of Rimuru during Walpurgis. In short, his cunning plans fell short before Rimuru. Surprisingly, he was the weakest member of the Moderate Harlequin Alliance.

Tear [Moderate Harlequin Alliance]

Another member of the Moderate Harlequin Alliance. One of Clayman’s loyal agents, known for her illusion and combat magic.

Footman [Moderate Harlequin Alliance]

Also a member of the Moderate Harlequin Alliance, Tear’s partner; a brutal, jester-like Majin obsessed with destruction. He is one of the strongest in the group.

Laplace [Moderate Harlequin Alliance]]

The cunning leader of Clayman’s moderate clown troupe, often spying and manipulating from the shadows. He killed a Demon Lord–level vampire simply for disrespecting Clayman — and even mocked the vampire’s death afterward. This act alone showed just how powerful and ruthless he truly is.

Youm, Myulan, and Grucius

Human adventurers who become Rimuru’s allies; Youm later becomes the public “King of Falmuth” under Rimuru’s control.

He is one of the Primordials, who are supposed to be only seven, along with the likes of Black (now Diablo, serving Rimuru). But get this, he is far stronger than the current Diablo since, for thousands of years, he stayed in the underworld waiting for the perfect master. So, due to the lack of presence in the world, he couldn’t upgrade his powers. In short, he is a thousand years short of experience and power compared to the current Guy Crimson.

Demon Lord Ramiris

The Fairy Queen and one of the Ten Great Demon Lords who aids Rimuru, creating labyrinths and serving as comic relief. Presently living in Tempest as an honored guest.

Part 2: Why Tensura Is the Top Anime of All Time

The Magic of World-Building

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime portrays a fantasy world teeming with demi-humans, elves, dragons, and countless other races. Its intricate political strategies, power struggles, betrayals, and revenge plots make it one of the most compelling anime in its genre. The world-building is nothing short of genius.

In this universe, only the most powerful monsters can bestow names upon others — and unnamed monsters are inherently weaker. However, once named, they undergo evolution, gaining new forms and immense power. The protagonist, Rimuru Tempest, believes everyone deserves a name, so every monster in his nation is named — and as a result, incredibly powerful. This simple yet profound concept makes the series stand out as a masterpiece of creative storytelling.

Power Progression Done Right

Typically, in most fantasy anime, the hero or protagonist gets a cheat skill or system which he utilizes to get ahead of others and becomes the most powerful one. But in the case of Slime, it is not the case. Rimuru, during his life as a monster, gets all sorts of struggles and gets some of the most unique and powerful abilities.

His power progression is well done and with good reasonings. No out-of-the-blue power-ups are given to the protagonist. Even when he becomes a Demon Lord, it is for very good reasons, along with revenge and all. Furthermore, the concepts of power-ups and the rule of the survival of the fittest are excellently animated concepts that make this anime the top anime of all time.

Themes That Hit the Heart

Rimuru’s kind nature, combined with his ruthless attitude toward protecting his people, makes the overall theme of the anime a delight to witness. The feel-good elements of this anime are too good to ignore. I know most of you who have watched this anime feel the same.
Furthermore, the emotions, the music, and the dialogues are simply way too entertaining. If you decide to watch it, ensure you watch it with the real Japanese audio with subtitles. I don’t know if you’ll agree with me or not, but the subbed versions of the anime are way better than the dubbed ones. The dubbed ones simply cannot do justice to the original work.

Tensura Current Upate (As per anime)

So, Rimuru’s come a long way from being just a slime. He’s now running the whole show in Jura Forest—the Tempest Federation. It’s a real melting pot of monsters, from goblins and ogres to dragons, all living under one banner.

He pulled this off through smart deals, his unique ability to name and empower monsters, and by making powerful friends like the other Demon Lords, Milim and Guy. He’s got a solid team running things: Benimaru handles the military, Shion deals with administration (somehow), and Souei manages the spy network. Oh, and let’s not forget Veldora, the dragon, who’s basically his ultimate trump card.

But things are getting complicated. Human nations and merchant groups are getting nervous, creating outside pressure. Meanwhile, Tempest is developing fast. The story is really shifting into a phase of large-scale strategy and political intrigue. In this new reality, Rimuru’s circle of friends and allies isn’t just a bonus—it’s his greatest asset and the core of what comes next. Rimuru and his allies reside currenly in Tempest.

Also, Season 4 of the anime was announced in September, 2024 along with a second movie.
