Haki is Useless Against these Devil Fruit Powers in One Piece

Haki is Useless Against these Devil Fruit Powers in One Piece

In the world of One Piece, the conversation around power often circles back to Haki. It’s treated as the great equalizer, the key to bypassing any Devil Fruit’s tricky defense. But what if some powers operate on a level where Haki simply doesn’t apply? Some Devil Fruits don’t just counter Haki; they sidestep it entirely, making the user’s willpower irrelevant. Here are seven abilities that prove Haki isn’t the ultimate answer to everything.

Wara Wara no Mi — Damage Redirection

Used by Basil Hawkins, this fruit turns the concept of a direct hit on its head. You can land a perfect, Haki-infused blow on Hawkins, but the damage won’t stay with him. It gets redirected to a pre-prepared straw doll or even an unwilling ally. Your raw power becomes meaningless unless you first understand the intricate rules of his ability. In Wano, he survived encounters with Kaido’s forces by outsourcing fatal injuries, turning battles into puzzles of information rather than tests of strength.

The Memo Memo no Mi (Memory Manipulation)

Charlotte Pudding’s power targets something Haki cannot fortify: your past. She can reach into a person’s mind to alter, remove, or store memories. You could possess the strongest Armament or the sharpest Observation Haki, but none of it guards the foundation of your identity—your experiences. By erasing key memories, she can dismantle a person’s motivations and relationships, leaving their physical strength purposeless.

The Nagi Nagi no Mi (Silence)

Donquixote Rosinante’s ability creates a sphere of absolute silence. This power doesn’t overpower Observation Haki; it starves it. Observation relies on sensing presence, intent, and the subtle cues of the environment. Within Corazon’s silence, those cues vanish. You can’t hear, sense vibrations, or detect movement through sound, creating a profound sensory void. He used this in Dressrosa to cloak Law’s movements perfectly, proving that sometimes, defeating Haki means removing the data it needs to function.

The Soru Soru no Mi (Soul Manipulation)

Big Mom’s terrifying power bypasses physical defenses entirely. She extracts lifespans based on one simple condition: fear. She asks if you’re scared, and if that flicker of emotion exists, she can take your soul. Haki is an expression of will, but fear is a primal instinct that can slip past even the strongest resolve. This isn’t a contest of power; it’s a test of emotion, where hesitation leads to instant defeat.

The Hobby Hobby no Mi (Toy Transformation)

Sugar’s power is arguably one of the most absolute in the series. A single touch transforms a person into a toy and simultaneously erases them from the memories of everyone they ever knew. There’s no battle, no clash of energies—just instant, irreversible effect. By the time you think to activate your Haki, it’s already over. You’re not just defeated; you’re erased from history, making any defensive power moot.

The Hito Hito no Mi, Model Nika (Freedom / Reality Bending)

Luffy’s awakened Nika form represents the ultimate expression of freedom, which includes freedom from conventional logic. While Haki can hurt him, it cannot contain or make sense of what he does. He bends his rubber body and the environment around him according to his imagination, making a mockery of physical rules. As Kaido lamented, it’s “ridiculous.” Nika doesn’t cancel out Haki; it operates on a narrative level where Haki’s rules are just another thing to play with.

Imu’s Authority (Erasure-Level Power)

At the pinnacle sits Imu, whose mysterious ability represents absolute control. This isn’t a power used in combat; it’s used from a position of ultimate authority to erase islands, people, and history itself. There is no battlefield for Haki to matter, no opponent to outwill. If Nika is the embodiment of freedom, Imu is the embodiment of control that operates on a scale where an individual’s willpower is an irrelevant statistic.

My thoughts about Haki is useless against these Devil Fruits

Looking at this list, it becomes clear that Haki, while immensely powerful, exists within a certain framework. It excels in direct, will-based confrontations. However, these Devil Fruits operate outside that framework. They target your memories, your soul, your very existence, or manipulate the rules of engagement so completely that Haki has no purchase. They remind us that in the vast, weird world of One Piece, raw will isn’t always the answer—sometimes, you’re facing a power that changes the question entirely.
