The Baran shown in the demon castle arc is a weaker replica made by the System. The real Baran is much stronger.

He has gray skin, white flame-like hair, glowing white eyes, and four horns. He is cruel, aggressive, and never backs down from a fight. His main power is Hell’s Army, which summons demonic soldiers through portals. He also has lightning breath and spiritual body manifestation, though the real version of that form is never shown.

Tarnak, Monarch of the Iron Body

Tarnak looks mostly human, with blonde hair and glowing green eyes. He hates humans and is openly disgusted that one could become the Shadow Monarch.

He is proud and overconfident, but also smart and calculating. In his spiritual body manifestation, he becomes a massive golem with lime green hair and gray armor. His fighting style is pure destruction. He breaks through anything in his path.

Rakan, Monarch of Fangs

Rakan is a beast-man with yellow eyes, sharp teeth, and a heavy build. He hates humans even more than Tarnak does. He once killed a man on sight for simply bumping into him.

He is arrogant and aggressive, even before he transforms. His spiritual body manifestation turns him into a giant white wolf with sharp claws and red eyes. He can also partially transform, shifting only his arms, legs, and torso for a power boost while keeping his human shape.

Sylphid, Monarch of Frost

Sylphid looks like an old man with long white hair. That look hides how strong he really is. He has put A-rank hunters to sleep with a single snap of his fingers.

He controls ice. He can create blizzards, ice weapons, and ice monsters, and freeze targets with his breath. In his spiritual body manifestation, he looks much younger, with hair that glows like icy flame and ears that turn elf-like. Most of his clothing disappears in this form too.

Legia, Monarch of the Beginning

Legia first appears chained inside a dungeon boss room. He looks weak because he is restrained, but he is not weak at all.

The Rulers captured him and used mana-absorbing chains to control him. As King of Giants, his strength matches what his species can do, and normal giants can already overpower S-rank hunters. One clear example of his power: a giant fueled only by his leftover mana grew strong enough to be ranked a national-level threat. That happened without Legia even fighting directly.

Yogumunt, Monarch of Transfiguration

Yogumunt looks like an old man too, with gray hair and red eyes that turn purple when he’s angry. He wears a bone mask and a hooded cloak, and he is almost always levitating.

He sees humans as beneath him and doesn’t think they’re worth fighting. His main power is gate creation, which lets him open portals to move himself and his army across the battlefield. He relies on strategy more than brute force. Another Monarch trusted him to lead an entire army, which says a lot about his standing among them.

Ashborn, the Original Shadow Monarch

Ashborn is a shadow warrior in dark armor, with purple hair, purple eyes, black horns, and a black sword. Unlike the other Monarchs, he respected humanity and wanted the war between Monarchs and Rulers to end.

Instead of fighting forever, he passed his power to a human. Before that, Ashborn commanded 100,000 shadow soldiers and could overpower two Monarchs at once. He killed Baran with his bare hands. All the core powers the main character later uses, shadow extraction, shadow exchange, and immortality through the black heart, started with Ashborn.

Antares, Monarch of Destruction

Antares is the King of Dragons. He commands an army of ten million dragons.

His base form has red hair, a red beard, and dark red claws. In his spiritual body manifestation, he turns into a full dragon with power that’s hard to measure. His signature move, breath of destruction, causes permanent damage that never heals. He also has a hybrid form with reptilian armor, but the full dragon form is what makes him so dangerous. He is calm and confident, and looks down on humans, but he respects anyone who genuinely impresses him in a fight.

The Shadow Monarch: The Strongest of Them All

This brings us to the solo leveling main character, who started the story as the weakest hunter alive and ended up stronger than every Monarch on this list.

Everything changed at the double dungeon. Ashborn had been searching for a successor, and even though this hunter kept facing near-death situations, he never gave up. He kept risking his life to protect the people around him, and that’s what convinced Ashborn to pass on his power.

As the new Shadow Monarch, his main power is necromancy. He builds an army of ten million shadow soldiers, including some of the strongest names in the story.
