The Dorohedoro Season 2 2026 release ended a wait that started in early 2020. When the first season wrapped that January, it left fans with an unfinished story, a cult-level fanbase, and no confirmed continuation. Six years later, MAPPA brought it back — and did it the right way.

ToggleThe Return
Dorohedoro Season 2 premiered on April 1, 2026 with a special opening: the first three episodes dropped simultaneously in a 60-minute premiere block. It was a smart choice. Rather than easing back in slowly, the show threw viewers directly back into The Hole — the brutal, grimy urban district where magic users test their spells on defenseless civilians.
The full season has 11 episodes total. After the three-episode launch, new episodes have dropped weekly every Wednesday. The season is currently ongoing.
Where to Watch
- Netflix — global streaming
- Crunchyroll — simulcast, Wednesdays at 7:00 AM PT / 10:00 AM ET
- Kansai TV / other networks — Japanese broadcast
Both Netflix and Crunchyroll are streaming it simultaneously, which makes it one of the most accessible anime on the current schedule.
The Production Team
The same key staff from Season 1 returned for Season 2, which matters more for this series than most:
- Director: Yuichiro Hayashi (returning)
- Series Composition: Hiroshi Seko (returning)
- Character Designer: Tomohiro Kishi (returning)
- Studio: MAPPA
- Music: (K)NoW_NAME (opening: “Zettai Must Danmen” / ending: “Return to Head”)
Continuity of staff means the aesthetic is preserved. Dorohedoro’s visual identity — the gritty hand-drawn texture, the way violence and dark humor occupy the same frame — is intact.

What the Story Covers
Season 2 picks up where Season 1 left off: Caiman is a man with a lizard head, the result of a curse placed on him by a sorcerer he can’t identify. He and his partner Nikaido — who runs a gyoza restaurant — are still trying to find out who did this to him, and why. The lizard head contains a face inside it that seems to hold the key to Caiman’s real identity.
By Episode 7, the season has moved into significantly darker territory. Ebisu was brought back to life through Kikurage — but the process was brutal, and it revealed something real about Fujita’s attachment to her. The second half of Episode 7 spiraled into chaos in ways that are typical for this series and still managed to be surprising.
The show excels at treating its characters as fully realized people within a world that has absolutely no interest in anyone’s comfort.
Why It’s Worth Watching
Dorohedoro is the kind of show that doesn’t have an obvious genre home. It’s dark fantasy, but it’s also a slice-of-life about people who happen to live in a nightmarish city. The action is violent but creative. The humor is dry and genuinely funny. The character dynamics — especially between Caiman and Nikaido, and between Shin and Noi — have the kind of texture you get from a manga that was developed slowly over many years.
Q Hayashida built something deeply strange and deeply human at the same time. MAPPA’s adaptation has honored both sides of that.
How Many Episodes Are Left?
With 11 total episodes and the three-episode premiere already aired, approximately 8 weekly episodes followed from April 8 onward. The season should conclude around mid-June 2026.
